How many photos do I need to create a mosaic?

You need one main image and at least 10 different tile photos.
A small collection is enough to get started. Adding more photos creates greater variety, and you can also work with hundreds of images or collections of 1,000 photos and more. When needed, the mosaic maker repeats individual photos to complete the mosaic.

Which photo should I use as the main image?

Choose a clear, recognizable image with a distinct subject.
Portraits, pets, buildings, objects, landscapes, and logos can all work well. Images with good contrast and a subject that stands out from the background are usually easiest to recognize in the finished mosaic.

What is a Focus Mosaic?

A Focus Mosaic keeps an important subject clearer while the surrounding image becomes a photo mosaic.
The editor can detect a face automatically, or you can select a person, pet, logo, or another important area yourself. You can refine the selection with paint, erase, outline, and soft-edge controls.

Which photos should I use as tile photos?

Use the photos that tell the story you want the mosaic to contain.
They can be portraits, snapshots, travel photos, team pictures, family memories, or any other meaningful images. Portrait, landscape, and square photos can be combined, so you do not need to crop every photo before adding it.

Will every photo I add appear in the mosaic?

The editor uses and repeats photos according to the colors, brightness, pattern, and available positions in the mosaic.
Depending on your photo collection and settings, some images may appear more often than others and an individual photo may not be visible in every version. Review the preview and adjust the settings until you are happy with the result.

How clearly will I be able to see the tile photos?

That depends on the tile size and the viewing distance.
Smaller tiles reproduce the main image in greater detail. Larger tiles make the individual photos easier to recognize. From a distance, you see the main image; up close, the many tile photos become visible.

Can I turn a logo into a photo mosaic?

Yes. A logo can be used as the main image or as a tile photo.
Clear logos with strong shapes and good contrast usually produce the best results. Make sure the logo is saved in one of the supported image formats.

Which image formats can I use?

The editor supports JPG/JPEG, PNG, WebP, and AVIF images.
If a file cannot be added, check whether it is damaged or saved in a different format.

What resolution should my photos have?

Use the highest-quality original available for your main image.
The tile photos are displayed much smaller and can therefore have a lower resolution. Avoid heavily compressed copies and screenshots whenever you still have access to the original files.

Can I use photos from my phone?

Yes. Photos from a smartphone are normally well suited for a photo mosaic.
Select the original files from your device whenever possible. The editor runs in a modern browser on computers, tablets, and smartphones.

Can I use scanned photos?

Yes. Scanned photographs can be combined with recent digital images.
Save the scans in a supported format, crop unnecessary borders, and check that faces and important details are sharp enough for the way you want to use them.

Do I need to resize or edit my photos first?

No. In most cases, you can add the original images directly.
The editor lets you crop and position the main image, select the output format, and choose an Original, Black & White, or Sepia style.

How do I add my photos?

How can I add many photos at once?

Select multiple files from your device and add them together.
If a very large collection slows down your device, close other memory-intensive browser tabs and add the photos in smaller batches.

What can I do if a photo cannot be added?

First check the file format and try the original file again in an up-to-date browser.
If the problem affects only one image, that file may be damaged. If a large batch fails, try a smaller selection. Do not clear your browser data while working on a mosaic, because this can remove the locally stored project.

How do I create and order a photo mosaic?

You can complete the process in five steps:

Will I receive a separate email with the download link?

Yes. We also send the download link to the email address entered during checkout.

How long is the download link available?

You can use the download link for five days.
We recommend saving a backup copy of the finished file after downloading it.

Which file format will I receive?

You receive the finished photo mosaic as a high-resolution JPEG file.
Different file sizes and quality levels are available so you can select the option that best suits your intended use.

Can I print the mosaic myself?

Yes. You can print the JPEG at home or use a local or online print provider.
For a large wall print, choose a file quality that supports the intended print size and follow the print provider's requirements.

Where are my photos stored while I create the mosaic?

Your selected photos and settings are stored locally in your browser while you work.
Your original photo files are not uploaded separately to our server during the editing process.

What is uploaded when I place an order?

Only the finished mosaic is uploaded and saved as part of the checkout process.
The original photos used to create the mosaic remain separate and are not uploaded individually.

How long does my editing session remain available?

The locally stored session expires after 24 hours without another save.
Your browser or device may remove the local data sooner, so complete your mosaic in the same browser and avoid clearing its site data while you are still working.

Can other people see my photos or mosaic?

No. Your project is not published publicly.
The finished mosaic is processed only for creating your preview, purchase, and download.

How is my finished mosaic handled after purchase?

The finished mosaic remains available for the limited period needed to provide your download.
